Capstone presentation outline
For the Gate 4 panel. Aim it at a non-technical audience: imagine a product owner or a clinical lead is listening.
- Band 3 and Band 4: 10 minutes, plus questions.
- Band 5 to Band 7: 20 minutes, plus questions.
The live run is the Gate 4 Part D practical.
Outline
| # | Section | Band 3, Band 4 | Band 5 to Band 7 | What to cover |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | What and why | 1 min | 2 min | The part of the product, and why it matters to users and patients. |
| 2 | What I decided to automate, and what I kept manual | 1 min | 3 min | From Evidence 7. The pyramid layers you chose, and why. |
| 3 | Live run | 3 min | 4 min | Run the tests. Show one pass. Show one deliberate failure and how to read it. |
| 4 | Safety and data | 1 min | 2 min | The hazards covered, from the traceability matrix. Where the evidence is kept. Synthetic data only. |
| 5 | What it saves, and what it does not cover | 2 min | 3 min | Manual time saved per release. Residual risks: what is still not tested, and what stays manual. |
| 6 | What I learned | 2 min | 2 min | One thing that was hard, one thing you would do differently. |
| 7 | Track-specific | — | 4 min | Band 6 quality assurance: coaching and acceptance checks. Band 7 test engineering: framework, pipeline, performance test, coaching. Band 7 test management: strategy, metrics, business case, adoption plan. Band 5 quality assurance, Band 6 test engineering: handover and how the team will maintain it. |
Tips
- Use plain words. Explain any technical term the first time you use it.
- Show, do not tell: the live run is worth more than slides.
- Be honest about gaps. Residual risks are part of good test reporting.
- Practise once in the hours 253–260.5 rehearsal.
What the panel looks for
- The work meets the brief and the scope agreement.
- The tests make real assertions and fail when behaviour is wrong.
- Spec and code agree.
- Synthetic data only; no secrets.
- The person can explain every line they submitted, including any drafted with AI.
- Coverage and residual risks are explained clearly to a non-technical audience.
